Throughout the world, trucks, together with trailer refrigeration units, are used to transport perishable goods to thousands of commercial outlets and typical large grocer outlets. The average fuel cost (Diesel) for a typical refrigeration unit exceeds US $10,000 per year. Current testing demonstrates that a CESAR equipped truck and refrigeration trailer provides at least 40% fuel savings, leading to a short payback period on the system installation. Addition benefits are provided by weight saving and reduction in fuel storage capacity. The energy for the cooling of the trailer is generated by heat recovered from the truck exhaust feed through our CESAR system, rather than diesel. The unit can also be charged by gas, oil or electricity from a stand alone energy storage system.
The project timing is anticipated to have a truck and trailer unit modified ready for route testing in the Calgary area by early 2009.
